About us

We are a team of USC Annenberg Specialized Journalism students who were sent into Liemert Park to find the stories.

Here is a little bit about us:

Marla Schevker

Marla graduated from California State University, Northridge with a BA in Print Journalism in May 2010. While in college she worked at the Daily Sundial, where she experienced many roles including Editor In Chief and Online Editor. Since then she has worked in community newspapers in Beverly Hills.

Samantha London

Samantha comes to USC’s Specialized Journalism (The Arts) program on the heels of two degrees in piano performance. In 2010 she graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan with her Bachelor of Music. More recently, she completed a Master of Music in the same area at Western Michigan University. Now outside of the practice room, Samantha plans to examine classical music from a writer’s perspective. In particular, she hopes to study the field with a broad lens: to assess how it is functioning today and to find some paths it might pursue tomorrow.

Kari has worked as a journalist for 16 years.  He is an editor for economics and business as well as a news editor for the only Finnish financial news agency Startel. In his earlier career, he reported regional news and local politics as a subeditor for the regional daily Hämeen Sanomat and the financial daily Taloussanomat and was the business editor for Taloussanomat.fi, an online financial news service.
