Meanwhile, moving West into Silverlake, the eclectic and artistic affluent population frequent Secret Headquarters–where comic book lovers and people watchers unite to flip through both classics and new installations. Centered between the two communities is the iconic Echo Park lake, which is experiencing renewal much like the city it is located in.

Secret Headquarters and Echo Park’s comic culture


The Secret Headquarters is not a microcosm of Echo Park/Silverlake. Some locals have probably never set foot through its squeaky door, and maybe never will. But those that have are hidden gems: people so quirky, intelligent and opinionated that you only wish you could be cool enough to hang with them.

Freddy and Jimmy Zepeda are icons of what they call the”ghetto generation,” who escaped the temptations of gang life and drugs that took the lives of many of their peers. Now they fight to reclaim their community and impact it in a positive way. Armed with instruments, they represent a new era of influence as they use Punk Rock to express themselves and their desire to make a difference.


Echo Park Lake Rehab

At the end of the day, the city will look forward to completing its work and residents will look forward to the restoration of a significant piece of their local heritage. They will at least have this regardless of the latest twists and turns in the ethnic and cultural movements.
